Winter Parking Information

Houlton Community Winter Preparations Updates:

In light of the oncoming winter days, Public Works Director Chris Stewart and Police Chief Tim DeLuca would like to bring a friendly reminder to our community regarding winter parking, snow removal and maintenance. As we know, parking and snow removal go hand in hand to ensure our streets, sidewalks and public parking areas are kept clear from ice and snow. Please keep in mind the following:

  • From November 1st of each year until April 1st of the following year, it is unlawful to park any motor vehicle on any street or public way and on any municipally owned property within the Town between the hours of 12:00AM and 6:00AM.
  • Regardless of parking restrictions, vehicles cannot hinder snow removal operations. Therefore, it is best to make off street parking arrangements during a snow event and after until snow removal operations are complete.
  • Please follow the current 2-hour parking restrictions as posted between 9:00AM and 6:00PM in the downtown area.
  • Please follow the current over night and day-time allowable and restricted times in municipal public parking lots (posted).
  • Please do not plow or place snow on a public way to include streets, sidewalks and fire hydrants during snow removal operations.
  • Downtown business district owners, please remember to remove ice and snow from the sidewalks in required areas.
  • The “Public Parking Lot” at Water Street and Mechanic Street, within 24 hours of a snow event, please move vehicles to the “No all-night parking” section for snow removal operations. Once snow removal is complete, vehicles can be returned.

Keeping these requirements in mind will help safeguard the community. We would rather have everyone working together than to take enforcement action.

If you have any questions regarding details outlined in the ordinance, please feel free to contact Public Works Director Stewart or Police Chief DeLuca.
